A lot of photographers from all over the nation e-mail me or message me and ask me about my editing process. They love what they see and to be honest, a lot of them ask me how much editing goes into the final product. Well… let me tell you: barely anything. Believe it or not, my editing process is fairly easy because I start out with a few key factors: 1) gorgeous girls who have professional air brush make up and hair, 2) good light 3) good locations and finally, 4) a good “straight out of the camera” image. That last factor is one of the most important. If you have a good image to work on, the work won’t be much.
I also think it’s important for my senior’s parents to know this as well. Fashion or model images and senior images are very different. I love taking a senior and showing her just how gorgeous she is. One of my favorite parts of a session is when I show my senior the back of the camera from one of my shots and they say, “WOAH! That is really good! I look so pretty!” BAM. That’s why I do what I do. Self esteem issues are an epidemic and if I can get through to one senior girl, then I’ve done my job.
Here’s some before (tops or lefts) and afters (bottoms and rights) from a recent session. I’m showing you this because I want you to realize that these girls are gorgeous on their own. I’m not doing anything to “fake” their beauty or “add” to their beauty. Nope… it’s all there before they ever have their portraits taken. Sometimes, they just need a little help to see it.
